The martyred groom - Hanzalah [RA]

One of the most beautiful phase of life is when you are young and married. Everything feels so complete and promising. This particular period of life seems to be so pleasant. Happiness encompasses from every nook and corner and sorrow vanishes leaving no trail behind. Unlike the marriage of Hanzalah [RA] . .

He was a man who gave up his life in the battle of Uhud  despite being newly married.

He was Hanzala bin Abu Amir.

His father, Abu Amir was a monk and an enemy of Islam. [he was also nicknamed al-fasiq which means an evildoer.] He was among the Makkan polytheist during the time of battle of Uhud.]

As soon as he heard about the fray, He set out his way directly to the battle of Uhud. He left his wife's bed to wrestle in the battle.

He made his way through their [polytheists] ranks till he reached the leader Abu Sufyan. He had nearly killed him but he was destined to be a martyr.

No sooner the clock had taken its next breath, Hanzala [RA] was killed by Shaddan bin Al Aswad. Thus he laid in the ground of Uhud as a martyr.

When the battle was over, The prophet Muhammad [SAW] and his companions searched the body of the martyrs to complete the burial process.

Prophet Muhammad [SAW] ordered his companions to not wash their bodies but buried directly.

The dead groom was missing. However the Prophet Muhammad's companions sought the body of Hanzalah [RA] and observed the water dripping off his body.

The messenger of Allah told that the angels were washing his body and the messenger sent a companion to ask his wife to which she confirmed that he had been in the state of ceremonial impurity.

Thus Hanzalah [RA] was given the title of  'Gaseel Al Malaikah' which means 'one who is washed by the angels.'
Hanzalah [RA]'s wife Jamila gave a birth to a son. He was named Abdullah bin Hanzalah.

We ask Allah [AZT] to give Hanzalah [RA] the highest rank in Jannah. Amen.
