WHAT I LEARNT FROM THE JOURNEY OF THE PROPHET MUHAMMAD TO TA’IF. -Nazeef Manegar

WHAT I LEARNT FROM THE JOURNEY OF THE PROPHET MUHAMMAD TO TA’IF.
-Nazeef Manegar

In the month of shawwal of his tenth year of Prophethood, when Muhammad (saw) set out on foot to At-Ta’if, a city about 60 kilometers from Makkah with his freed slave Zaid bin Harithah inviting people to the religion of Islam.

With a light on his face and hope in his heart that people will seek his advice and turn towards one almighty Allah, he approached the family of Umair who were notables among the nobility of the town.

But, to his disappointment, all of them turned heedless and used abusive language. Also, three brothers from the chieftains of Thaqif daringly mocked at the Prophet Muhammad (saw) for the cause he was working for.

Muhammad (saw), the mighty soul, did not become the mirror image of them. Instead, he politely said:

“Since you are behaving this way, please do not disclose my presence.”

Prophet Muhammad did not lose hope; he strived to deliver his message for ten more days. But, all to no avail.

The foolish and heedless people did not cease their torture on him. They hooted him through the narrow lanes and pelted him with stones. Blood flowed down both his legs. Such was the treatment of the merciless crowed that they chased him and his freed slave Zaid bin Harith on the sandy plains of At Ta’if.

The story of ta’if was a depressing saga. It was the day when truth was rejected by the merciless colonies and the yarn of evilness was untwined. But, the story doesn’t ends here. There’s lot to learn from the journey of Prophet Muhammad to Ta’if.

1. CALLING PEOPLE BEYOND THE HORIZON.

It was the time when Islam was preached openly and there was needed to transfer the holy message to nearby places.
Therefore, Prophet Muhammad travelled, to preach the message of Islam and also sent his companions to the near and faraway places.

As a Muslim, it is our responsibility to preach Islam beyond the horizon. It is equally important to travel and teach about the religion of one God. Prophet Muhammad had not only taken the religion to notable tribes but also delivered the holy message to every single individual!

Prophet Muhammad strived for us. They did not leave any stone unturned. No amount of pain and struggle dared to change the slogan of ‘la ilaha illallah, muhammadur rasulullah”. Such was the spirit of Prophet Muhammad.

Do we have courage to step out of our lazy bed and preach the religion of one God?

2. PATIENCE IS THE KEY

When Prophet Muhammad reached Ta’if, he could see nothing but darkness all around. He was nothing but an unwelcomed visitor. He received abusive language and pain. Such was the fate of his journey.

But, he did not run away in a day or two. Instead, he stayed there for ten more days. Prophet Muhammad did not use abusive language or supplicated against them. Ignorant were in multitude and humble people were few.

What I learnt from his journey is that patience is the key. If Prophet Muhammad would not have been patient, Islam would not have reached to us. Patience is the first requirement for the successful daa’wah.

3. DUA

Exhausted and tired, Prophet Muhammad took refuge in one of the fruit farms and rested against the wall of vineyard.

It was the time when whole world turned against him but his innocent heart turned towards almighty. It was the time when the mighty soul was in distress and his eyes bathed in tears. But, he was confident of the help of his lord.

“O Allah! To you alone I complain of my weakness. My insufficient ability and my insignificance before the people. You are the most merciful of the merciful. You are the lord of the helpless and the weak.”

Such was the supplication of our Prophet Muhammad.
This is the second most important step; to make abundant Dua and seek help from almighty Allah.

Daa’wah has never been so easy but it is not impossible as well. People with unshakable faith and trust in Allah have moved mountains. It is because of this unshakable faith and trust, Islam has reached to every corner of this world.

Travel and preach
Patience is the key
Make abundant Dua

These are things that I learnt from the journey of Prophet Muhammad to ta’if.
